PIONEERS
MILITARY ENGINEERS AND THEIR ACHIEVEMENTS

Following the outbreak of the First World War, the railway infrastructure and bridges on the Russian front were largely destroyed in 1914/15. The ability to build bridges and restore lines of communication accordingly became essential in order to maintain supplies and move troops. Italy's entry into the war and the establishment of a new front involving mountain and glacier warfare also required the construction of cableways, roads and pipelines. This special exhibition in the Kaiserjägermuseum shows the manifold achievements of the military engineers of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in keeping the front lines supplied.
