GITTI SCHNEIDER
MAY THE SKY ABOVE ME CLEAR

Adopting a personal biographical approach, the Tyrolean artist Gitti Schneider has developed several large format images. The focus is on the First Tyrolean Workers' Bakery (ETAB), which had once been run by her great-grandfather who moved from Trieste to Innsbruck. The building now houses the artist’s studio. The result is metre-long paper trains, fragile and transparent, painted, ripped, oiled and, with their multiple layers, reminiscent of corporeal objects. They are displayed in the museum’s cloister. The artist sees her work as a metaphor for the past, for specific but faded, washed out memories.
