Hear, hear!
Radio turns 100! On 1 October 2024, it will be exactly 100 years since RAVAG became the first Austrian radio company to start broadcasting. A lot has happened in radio and audio media since then. Home-made devices and expensive furniture radios were replaced by compact devices for the home, later on portable portable radios and handy Walkmans as well as all kinds of curiosities appeared. Technical progress and inventions such as the tape recorder and the loudspeaker also influenced people's listening behaviour and, as a result, social life. The exhibition at the Museum im Zeughaus on the 100th anniversary of radio and broadcasting follows the invisible waves into the past, along cultural-historical phenomena and technical milestones. Accompany us to the first recording studios in Tyrol and to the radio pirates in the mountains, listen through history at listening stations or go "on air" yourself in the studio and, last but not least, find out why radio is always political.
