The Burgbichl in Irschen - Current research on the late antique hilltop settlement
The Institute of Archaeology at the University of Innsbruck has been researching the late antique settlement on the Burgbichl in Irschen in the upper Drau Valley for several years. The site is part of a series of hilltop settlements in the south-eastern Alps, but reveals some special features that provide new insights into early Christianity in this region in particular.
The lecture will focus on aspects of the church furnishings, settlement form in the historical context, population and Ostrogothic rule as well as cultural influences.
