In this monograph, the graphic work of the artist Elde Steeg / Elfriede Stegemeyer (1908-1988) from the creative years 1930 to 1970 is comprehensively honoured for the first time.
The Berlin-born artist belonged to the circle of Cologne Progressive Artists during the Weimar Republic. She was involved in the resistance and saved her social utopian and anti-fascist attitude in her art through the repressive years of National Socialism into the second half of the 20th century.
With this publication, the Modern Collection of the Tyrolean State Museums continues its exploration of positions of proto-feminist art in the 20th and 21st centuries, which began with the collection presentations “If I can’t dance, I don’t wanna be part of your Revolution” and “elde steeg – die Frauen machen die Brötchen” in 2020 and 2021.
With contributions by Christine Baur, Lynette Roth and Dorothea Schöne as well as the editors Andreas Sladky and Florian Waldvogel.
