In museums, art objects often serve as illustrations of our own world views. We view them from an aesthetic perspective, interpret them from a certain social and cultural context and subject them to personal considerations.
But don’t works of art also have a life of their own? Do they not also have the power to shape the world independently of human beings? Thomas Feuerstein (artist), Oliwia Murawska (ethnographer, University of Innsbruck), Annika Schlitte (philosopher, University of Greifswald) and Christiane Schürkmann (sociologist, University of Mainz) will discuss this “dark desire of all things”, as the poet Rainer Maria Rilke once called it.
