With its 1000 m2 canvas and a 360° view, the giant circular painting is the largest painted work of art in Tyrol. It depicts the so-called “Third Battle of Bergisel” of 1809.
Created almost 90 years after the historical event, the panoramic painting also reflects its time of creation: nationalism and loyalty to the emperor, heroic myths and the importance of emerging tourism in Tyrol in the second half of the 19th century.
The guided tour provides an insight into the period in which the painting was created, its content and its historical and political significance to this day.
Guided tour as part of the “Free Sunday at the Museum” programme.
