Johann Zach spent the last 17 years of his life as a freelance musician and travelled to aristocratic residences and monasteries in central and southern Germany, Bohemia and Italy. He had a special relationship with the Tyrolean Cistercian monastery of Stams, where the world’s largest collection of his works can be found today.
Our concert features two of Zach’s sacred masterpieces that have survived in Stams: the large-scale Requiem in D minor, a highly original and extremely colourful Mass for the Dead, and a large-scale Missa solemnis.
