We encounter brass band music at every turn in Tyrol, at festivals and parades, in concert halls as well as in churches. Many love it and devote a lot of time to it, while some feel annoyed by it: How do I feel about it? Do I play along and if so, why? Or does this music mean nothing to me? What is brass band music anyway? We dare to take a deep and thoroughly critical look at this “sacred cow” of regional self-image.
The supposedly ancient tradition of brass band music in Tyrol – there are more bands here than municipalities – turns out to be more dynamic and multi-faceted than many people think. The exhibition focusses on the exciting development of brass music in the interplay with social and political changes as well as the many people of all generations who are enthusiastic about it and convey this enthusiasm in a lively way.
