Many animals and plants colonise habitats that are significantly warmer, colder, wetter or drier than we humans can tolerate.
This exhibition tells the story of creatures that have adapted to extreme habitats, such as the prehistoric crayfish Triops (pictured), whose eggs can survive for many years even after a body of water dries up. The North American wood frog, on the other hand, freezes almost completely in the water in winter and thus survives the cold months. Another focus is on the moor, a unique habitat for rare species and at the same time a CO2 reservoir that makes a significant contribution to climate protection.
