Folklorist and author Elsbeth Wallnöfer has been researching the concept of home for decades, publishing on customs and traditions and has repeatedly focussed on the topic of traditional costume (most recently: Tracht macht Politik, Innsbruck 2020, and How to wear a Dirndl: (k)eine Gebrauchsanleitung, Salzburg 2024). We talk to her about the construction of identity.
Erich Riegler, President of the Austrian Brass Music Association, comments on the role of brass music in modern society. He has publicly distanced himself from the term “Leitkultur”, which was propagated by politicians in their own campaign, with a photo of a brass band being chosen as the subject.
