Triumphpforte, Leopoldsbrunnen and Anichstraße in Innsbruck commemorate historical events and people. Who has no monument and therefore no narrative in public space? We discuss what is considered a monument, why monuments are erected and who decides on them. Which idea or which person would we erect a monument to tomorrow?
In the first part of the event, we will look at the stories of monuments that are told in museums and take a critical look at the culture of remembrance. This can inspire us to research the history of other monuments in our own neighbourhood.
Afterwards, we go to the workshop to get creative ourselves: We design small-scale monuments based on our own ideas: What do we want to commemorate? How do we express these messages using different materials? What role do form and language play in this?
Experiments with body and space and other creative exercises presented in the workshop are also suitable for school lessons.
