Now that openness and a participatory impetus are regarded as parameters of successful museum work, questions about the attitude and organisational culture within the museum are becoming increasingly virulent. Hierarchical systems are increasingly being replaced by team-based and functional models. Ways of participation and co-determination are coming into focus and new expertise, dynamics and forms of cooperation are emerging that need to be examined.
In this workshop, we will look at the motives, methods and effects of participatory organisational cultures. We will explore the potential of the many voices and practise unlearning strictly hierarchical patterns of action.What possibilities does this open up for the museum of the future? Who has a say and when, and what happens beyond words? How is it possible to reach better decisions together?How does a “radically democratic museum” work?
