The workshop offers expert input on the situation in the Middle East and the associated educational challenges in schools, youth work and other fields of work that focus on engaging with young people.
The war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, which was triggered by the Hamas terrorist attack on 7 October 2023, is currently affecting many people and is omnipresent in the media. Teenagers and young adults in particular are exposed to a one-sided, ideologising and polarising portrayal of the complex situation due to their daily consumption of social media, which usually lasts several hours. The rise in anti-Semitism and anti-Muslim racism and a further division of society seem almost pre-programmed as a result. However, in order not to be powerless in the face of this, an informed attitude is important. This requires basic knowledge about the history of the conflict and current developments, about the actors involved and their interests. On this basis, the approaches and methods of anti-Semitism and racism-critical pedagogy on the Middle East conflict can then be used in different areas of work.
The aims of the training course are to develop a personal attitude, to provide a solid knowledge base and to acquire knowledge of pedagogical approaches to educational work on the Middle East conflict that is critical of anti-Semitism and racism. In the training programme, specialist input alternates with interactive elements, so that learning is possible on different levels.
A basic willingness for self-reflection is a prerequisite. This training course is for teachers and student teachers of all disciplines (excluding primary school), for professionals in school social work, open youth work, for employees in refugee aid and all those who work in educational counselling and with young people.
