A carved angel, a stuffed Andean condor, a mummified foot. Even medallions containing strands of Andreas Hofer’s beard are stored in the depots of the Tyrolean State Museums. But how did these objects end up there? Provenance research has pieced together their history. The exhibition “Aufgespürt” proves that there is more than just one story behind every exhibit.
21 objects, 21 views of the front and back: the exhibition traces the journeys of our collection pieces – back to the colonial era and the injustices of the Nazi years. It documents the expropriation of Jewish citizens, recounts donations and exchanges, and highlights the gaps that remain to this day. In doing so, the exhibition brings to life the years of research carried out at the Tyrolean State Museums: the process of searching, tracing and documenting.
